I get down from the bus and cross one half of the road, the traffic signal goes green on the other half.
A short man comes running shouting "Jaldi signal khul gaya hai!" ( "Hurry, the signal is green!") but it's too late already.
Me, This man, and an old man with a stick is stuck between the vacant space between the divider, this man grabs the hand of the old man and starts moving amidst the moving traffic, I get startled at the sudden movement of these two and cross the road, holding the old man's hand.
The old man thanks us and moves on. The guy walks beside me and the following conversation ensues.
"Isne to pura condom hi pehen liya hai"( It look like she's wearing a condom) he says, I look at him and see him staring at a woman wearing a t-shirt and leggings. I stare at him, "jaise taise kapde pehen ke ghumte hai" ( They wear such immodest clothes) he continues.
"Unke kapdo se aapko kyu farak padta hai?"( why do her clothes bother you?) I ask still staring at him.
"Itne tight kapde, jisme sab kuch ka pata chale pehene mein sharam nahi aati? Wo madam dekho saamne unke salwar suit kitne acche lag rahe hai" (She should be ashamed of wearing such tight clothes, look at that woman she is wearing Indian Clothes, she looks good in them!)
"Aapke hisaab se to mujhe bhi sharam aani chahiye kyunki maine tight jeans pehni hai" ( In that case, I should be ashamed too for wearing skinny jeans!)
"Nahi, inhone jo pehna hai wo sabhya nahi hai" ( No, what she's wearing is not appropriate)
"Aap kaun ho sabhyta batane wale?" (Who are you to tell what is appropriate?)
He stares at me. "Baat to sahi hai aapki" (You are right) and breaks eye contact and moves ahead, I take a turn towards my office.
