"Macchi mile to batana" I yelled at him,
He couldn't hear what I said, and signalled me to repeat again,
I said it twice, louder each time, he still couldn't hear it,
I moved on the rock near him, carefully traversing through the spiky and slippery terrain.
"Main keh raha tha ki, macchi mile to batana, aap dur mein they tab maine bahut photo liya,
kaafi der wait bhi kiya macchi ke saath lene ka, par aap idhar aa gaye"
"Main notice kiya re tereko kaafi dur se, macchi milna mushkil hai aaj, paani theek nahi hai, thanda hai bohot"
I heave a sigh, and settle on the rock, he continues on his fishing.
The friend and his "artistic" photo
His friend who was on the farther rocks has closed his fishing for the day and comes to meet him,
he looks at my camera and says
"Dekh mera photo liya dur se mereko malum, par ek bhi photo mein chehra nahi aana chahiye
aur artistic quality hona chahiye sabme" The friend says looking at me.
I and the first guy chuckle,
"Iska baat mat sunn, ye harami hai" says the first guy, and breaks into a laughter.
"Waise main isse bhi bada harami hu" He continues after a pause and then breaks into another fit.
I just continue laughing, the other two have a banter about fishing.
The second guy looks at me and says.
"Mera bhi kabhi photography ka shauk tha, ye fishing bhi bas shauk hai, sab try karke baitha hai main idhar"
He then looks at my camera kit and tells me about the functions in it and the kind of pictures it is suitable for, adding credibility to his claims, then he suggests me to take a portrait of him.
"Ab kaiko lene de raha hai photo? Kal facebook pe aane ka hai tereko?"
The first guy asks,
"Abey photography sikha raha isko main, tu nahi samjhega"
The second guy responds, and I stay silent and think over their "Being Harami" claims.
In the meanwhile the second guy leaves, the first guy starts a conversation with me.
"Kaha se hai be tu?"
" Arey! Main udhar hi paida hua par abhi kuch yaad nahi,
chotey mein goa aa gaya. Mera maa idhar ka hai, baap lonavala ka hai,
Kolkata mein naukri tha uska, Cook tha port trust mein "
"Main bhi aapke jaisa hu thoda, Rajasthan main paida hua"
"Dekh ek to hota hai born, ek hota hai brought up, tera born and brought up bata" He interrupts me.
"Rajasthan mein born, Kolkata mein brought up" I reply.
"Mereko Kolkata bilkul yaad nahi, thoda thoda gali sab yaad hai,
par wo to badal gaya hoga, abhi mera khud ka shaadi ko 17 saal honey ko aaya
mera god-father udhar ka hai, abhi to shayad buddha hokey marr gaya hoga" He says without paying much heed to my response.
I continue clicking his photos, trying to get a good one of his face.
Danger Patthar in the background, he packing up to move to them
"Kya re, itna photo le raha hai mera, mereko facebook pe star banayega kya?"
I stop clicking, and he laughs
"Harami wala baat sahi hai aapka" I say with a precautionary chuckle.
A strong wave comes in and there is water all around me,
I tell him that I should move to the beach as water is coming in.
"Dhyan se jaa re, ye patthar slippery hai thoda, dekh main batata wo green waley pe pain nahi rakhna ka, wo 100% skid karega, ye jo sab pointed brown wala hai uspe rakh ke jaa"
"Experience hai aapko kaafi" I say.
"Han re, kabhi kabhi idhar 5-6 ghanta bitana padta hai, tab bhi macchi nahi milta, tu to aadha ghanta baitha sirf, experience aa jata hai" He says,
"Wo dur mein patthar dekh raha hai? Udhar ek baar paani mein fisal gaya tha,
patthar mein phas gaya, 1-2 ghante behosh tha, sar bhi phata, andhera ho gaya
par himmat karke wapas aa gaya apne aap us din to laga tha ki last day hai mera,
par bach gaya, ab experience aa gaya hai" He continues.
"Ab nahi jaate aap udhar?" I ask curiously
"Jaata hai, par din ke time, kam jaata hai, age ho gaya hai to family ka thoda tension rehta hai" he says with a wise grin.
I follow his advice about the rocks and come back to the sandy beach, he follows me.
On danger Patthar.
"Abhi wo dusri taraf wala danger patthar mein jayega, idhar paani zyada thanda hai to macchi nahi hai"
He moves to the danger patthar direction, and I move to the exit of the beach.
